Caldy Girls
THEY may not have been going for long, but Caldy Girls have wasted no time in making their mark on the club and the sport.
The youngsters have already had players selected for North West England and the development squad, as well as Cheshire.

Caldy Girls in action
It is a long way from 18 months ago, when there wasn’t a girls section at all.
Head coach Katie Lavin said: “We started from scratch really, but the girls have been so enthusiastic from day one. We are totally accepted at Caldy alongside the men and have really made our mark.”
Katie is not the only one who was impressed by the girls, who are sponsored by Bagnall & Morris Waste Services, Bromborough, and now field under 15 and under 18 teams in the Northern Merit Leagues.
Team manager Pat Parkinson, whose daughter Charlotte is the third generation of his family to play for Caldy, said the skill level of the girls is really high.
“They are very competitive and really get stuck in to a good standard. But the emphasis is on having fun, making friends and getting fit in a healthy, natural way, not like a stick thin supermodel.
“It is wonderful to see them running around and working hard, but with big smiles on their faces.”
Katie added the girls would not live up to the stereotypical image of a rugby player, and added: “Pretty much everyone in our squad has their nails painted a different colour every week and are gorgeous, but they realise they have to look after their team-mates and share in that team spirit.
“We are also going to have pink and blue after-game kit this year and have adapted the Caldy crest to include pink too, so we are putting our mark on the club and still being feminine.
“They just love playing sport together, and of course meeting the boys who play for the club too. That’s a big attraction too!”
Caldy Girls train every Sunday morning from 10.30am. To find out more about joining the club, telephone Pat Parkinson on 07740 433945.
